You've probably all seen the Microsoft "The Surface Movement" commercial a few times on TV. In my opinion it is one of the very best commersials ever created! When I saw it the first time, I was amazed by all the dancing and the "clicks", and I didn't really pay attention to who was actually dancing. After I've seen it a few more times, I realized that the lead dancer is Daniel "Cloud" Campos, one of my all time favorite dancers. He had a role in Step Up 3D, but I've loved him long before that. I came across his incredible YouTube videos a few years ago and it's safe to say that he's got to be from another world. The things he's able to do with his body... Check him out on YouTube asap!
Anyway, not only Mr. Campos is part of the commercial. There are a few more of my favorite dancers featured. Bryan Tanaka (danced for Beyoncé, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, JLo), Ashlee Nino (Step Up 3D, So You Think You Can Dance) and last but not least: Madd Chadd, the breathtaking dancer from the Step Up movies.
Everytime I saw the commercial all I could think of was: who choreographed, staged, and directed this masterpiece of a commercial? So I googled it and again I was amazed but what I found. No other man than the wonderful Jon M. Chu directed the whole thing. That same Jon M. Chu that directed the Step Up movies, LXD, DS2DIO and much more. And as if that weren't enought, I couldn't believe who choreographed it: Christopher Scott (who played Hair in Step Up 2 and 3, danced on Glee and choreopraphed the LXD with Harry Shum Jr.) and the other choreographer was Jamal Sims. Sims choreographed the Step Up movies, Hairspray, Footlose and several award shows.
I think it's a wonderful thing that the world's top dancers, directors and choreographers team up for something as "small" as a commercials, when they are actually used to doing big dance movies.
Check out the commercial itself and the behind the scenes video below (especially the behind the scenes; it's amazing to see how everything came together).
I hope you love it as much as I do!
